“Clean up Day” in Apple Valley October 23

From Staff Reports- Apple Valley, CA –In celebration of “A Better Way of Life,” the Town of Apple Valley is calling for volunteers at the Community Clean-Up Day Saturday, October 23, 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Community service organizations, schools, churches, clubs and individual volunteers are invited to participate in this free and very positive event.

Teams are provided with trash bags and gloves and assigned an area to clean; in return participants get event t-shirts and lunch while supplies last, Town spokeswoman Sierra Webb said. Volunteers must sign up in advance to get supplies, assignments and fill out a liability waiver. The twice annual Clean Up Days are made possible with the help of Burrtec, Wal-Mart, Sparklett’s, Take Pride in America and Keep California Beautiful. Last year’s clean ups removed over 40 tons of trash and seven tons of recyclable metal from our fields, streets and yards.

“Bulky household items such as mattresses, appliances, and furniture may be dropped off free of charge at the collection bins on the corner of Navajo and Pah-ute between 9 a.m. and noon,” said Webb.  No tires, televisions, computer monitors or other hazardous materials will be accepted.  Proof of Apple Valley residency is required.

General household trash, yard waste and construction debris will be not be accepted at the drop-off location, but can be taken to the Victorville landfill free of charge from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.   This program is offered in conjunction with the County of San Bernardino Waste System Division Free Dump and Recycle Day.
