Apple Valley introduces pet photo database to reunite pets with their owners.

Staff Reports

(Apple Valley) –It’s like mug shots for pets, except this will help keep them out of lock up.  The Town of Apple Valley is adding to its pet database to include photos of furry family members! A primary goal of our Animal Services Department is to reunite lost pets with their owners.  While licensing and microchipping are critical components in this effort, indexing the photos by breed and other characteristics will give the Animal Services Department a better chance of finding the owner, for example, if the pet has slipped out of their collar.

Participation in this free program is optional, but gives owners extra insurance against lost pets.  Please email a jpg of your pet to AVpetID@applevalley.org.  Put “AV Pet ID” plus the license number in the subject line.  Include the owner name, pet’s name and breed, street address and dog license number.  While cats do not have to be licensed, photos sent will be included in the database as well.

Photos should be clear and well lit, and the file size no larger than 1MB.  For more information visit www.AVAnimals.org.
