(Victorville)– Children in the community of Hinkley will soon enjoy a new playground thanks to action taken today by the Board of Supervisors.
“The people of Hinkley want a children’s park in their community,” said First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt. “We’ve combined our resources to make that wish a reality.”
Funds were secured from both a federal Community Development Block Grant and Proposition 40 funds. Proposition 40 is the California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks, and Coastal Protection Act of 2002.
The board approved a $123,600 contract with D. Webb Inc. of Yucca Valley to construct the playground. Webb was the lowest of six bidders.
Initial plans for the playground called for it to be constructed at the Senior Center on Mountain View Road, however another potential site for the playground is being considered near Hinkley Elementary School.
To secure this funding, the project must be completed and final papers filed to the state by March 30, 2011.
