(Adelanto)– There are many families in the Victor Valley that are struggling through some tough times right now. A group of moms decided to help each other and their neighbors by starting a free clothing swap.
Lisa Anderson hosts the swaps at her home in Adelanto. She explained, “We were inspired by another local clothing swap that was just for children. Instead of doing children’s clothing we decided to take up where they left off in the teen and adult sizes. It was a real hit and there were a lot of people in need of it. We get bigger every day.”
The basic idea behind the clothing swap is that people bring any used clothing in good shape that they want to get rid of, and swap it for items that others have dropped off. “Some people just donate their unwanted clothes to us and we give to people who do need it.
We have our fellow swappers that come to every swap,” Anderson said. “There are no minimums or maximums, you bring what you can and take what you want. Some people bring one or two things and they leave with a whole bag full!”
Anderson says that people come from all over the High Desert to attend the swap. “Apple Valley, Hesperia, Phelan, Boron, Barstow, Adelanto, Victorville” all around here. Some people come from down the hill and they hook up with family up here and they come to our swap.”
“What’s going on with the economy right now is another big reason why I started this I saw there was a real need. Not a lot of people can go out and buy brand new clothing, so I figured this was a great way to fill people’s closets with needed clothing for free,” said Anderson.
The Swapping Mamas holds clothing swaps once or twice a month. Their next swap is tomorrow, Saturday, September 17th from 10:30am-12:00pm. They are currently seeking storage totes with lids to store all of their clothing, and folding tables to set all the clothing on.

They also have a very active group on Facebook. Or call Lisa Anderson for more information 760-534-2210 for more information.
