Calico Ghost Town Waives Fee For Military Spouses

(Victor Valley)–First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt and the board of supervisors approved a recommendation to allow the spouses of military personnel based at the U.S. Army’s National Training Center at Fort Irwin and the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow to tour Calico Ghost Town at no charge as part of an orientation program. The program is designed to introduce them to family friendly recreational opportunities in the High Desert. There are approximately 12,170 family members and assigned military at Fort Irwin and 1,730 family members, active duty military and personnel at the Marine Corps Logistics Base. About 50 spouses will be able to tour the park as part of the orientation, which occurs four times per year.
