(Apple Valley)–Phat Cat Swinger brought swing music home to roost at the Granite Hills High School Gymnasium Friday night in a two hour high energy musical stage performance that was part High School Sock Hop and part Palomar Ballroom.

Phat Cat Swinger delighted the audience with tunes from Bobby Darin, Michael Buble and Louis Prima and some original tunes that will be featured on their new album.  The nine piece band brought the same energy to their finale piece “Hey, Pachuco” as they did to their opener and continued to prove why they are one of the most popular bands in the High Desert.

With original band members Marco Palos on Alto Sax, William Pattinson on Baritone Sax, and Phil Clevinger on Trombone, the group has added Douglas “The Crooner” Roegiers on Vocals, , Ralph Torres on Tenor Sax, Ted Schumacher on Trumpet, Ace Anderson on Upright Bass, Eitaro Sako on Guitar and David Ingram on Drums.  Phil, Ted & Marco are also a part of “Louis Prima Jr. and The Witnesses”.  Swing Music, also called “Swing Jazz” has enjoyed resurgence in popularity with bands like Stray Cats, the Brian Setzer Band, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies and Crown Royal Review.  The audience was a mix of original fans of 40’s Swing and young adherents of the newer Swing. Bands like Phat Cat Swinger.

The concert was sponsored by the Apple Valley Kiwanis Club to raise money for their Scholarship program, which provides College Scholarships to Apple Valley and Granite Hills High School Seniors.  Apple Valley Kiwanis, chartered over 50 years ago is one of the oldest Community Service Clubs in the High Desert. They meet Friday Mornings at 7:00 am at the Apple Valley Country Club on Rancherias Road at Highway 18 in Apple Valley.  Anyone interested is invited to visit a meeting and learn more about the organization and their activities.

Phat Cat Swinger will be performing again on July 21 at the Apple Valley Civic Center Auditorium on Dale Evans Parkway in Apple Valley for the Town of Apple Valley Sunset Concert Series.  Admission is free and there is guaranteed to be a large crowd for these home-town favorites, so come early and bring a lawn chair or blanket.
