(Hesperia)– As the real estate industry goes through many changes, the National Association of Realtors is looking to its younger members to take leadership roles as the NAR grows and changes. To attain that goal, NAR and REALTOR Magazine founded the Young Professional Network, or YPN.

Realtors in general are pretty technologically “aware” as a result of the tools of their industry. YPN uses that to its advantage by connecting with its members through a blog and information packed website, as well as special YPN national networking events.

The Victor Valley Association of Realtors, or VVAR, has a newly formed YPN committee that is focusing on helping the younger generation of Realtors connect with one another.

The committee meets on the fourth Thursday of each month for a planning meeting, and once a month for a mixer. This month the mixer is a Cinco de Mayo celebration at Las Brisas Restaurant, 21919 Highway 18 in Apple Valley from 5:30-7:30pm.

“YPN is a committee for Realtors under 40, but it is open to Realtors regardless of age if they feel they can benefit from being a member,” said Michael Knight, Chairman of the VVAR YPN Committee. “The mixers are for the members to network, put names to faces, and exchange information. Last month we had a great turn out, so we are looking forward to it again this month.”

“We are also starting an educational series where we will invite speakers to give presentations. Some of the topics we will cover are Tax Tips and Write-offs, a BPO Panel, Risk Management, and Social Networking for Real Estate,” said Knight.

He continued, “We are also going to have reverse networking. This is where members of our group will mentor other real estate agents on how to use some of the new technology, like iPads, smart phones, and Facebook.”

YPN’s mission statement says, “YPN helps young real estate professionals excel in their careers by giving them the tools and encouragement to become involved in four core areas: Realtor associations, real estate industry, peers, and community”.

As the real estate industry continues to evolve YPN hopes to tap the younger generation to help shape policies, bring fresh ideas to the table, and cultivate the next generation of NAR leadership.

The VVAR YPN committee has a group on Facebook. For more information contact Michael Knight at Michael.Knight@century21.com
