INCIDENT: CHILD FALLS FROM 2ND STORY WINDOW
LOCATION: 14000 BLOCK OF MARE LN, VICTORVILLE
VICTIM: 3 YEAR-OLD, MALE JUVENILE
(Victor Valley)–On Monday, June 27th, 2011, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Deputies of the Victorville Police Station were dispatched to a report of a 3 year-old child that had fallen from a 2nd story window of their home.
Deputies and Fire personnel were on scene within minutes to find the small child alert and breathing on his own. The child appeared to have only suffered minor injuries, but was airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital as a precautionary measure.
Through investigation it was learned that the mother and child were sleeping in a bed that was positioned in front of an open window. The child woke up and leaned against the screen, which then gave way and the child plummeted to the driveway below.
As the season is changing to warmer months, things in our home environments change as well. Now is a good time to make sure that smaller children can’t follow older ones out to the pool unsupervised, water isn’t left in buckets from cleaning or washing vehicles that a small child could get into and drown. As we open windows and blinds, make sure the cords to the blinds aren’t left dangling where children and animals can get a hold of them and accidently strangle themselves. Do an extra check at your home and anywhere your children may visit for safety measures that can be put into place for a safe and enjoyable summer.
