(Victorville)–Looking at Kayla Norris you would never know that she has ten years of perfect attendance at school.  You would never know that she is in the AVID College Preparatory Program at Silverado High School.  You would never know that she was a published author in the 6th Grade, and her book is in the Library at her Elementary School or that she went to Washington D.C. as part of her Leadership Class at Cobalt Middle School.  You would never know that she has a cancerous grade 3 Brainstem Glioma.

Diagnosed last June, Kayla spent four months in the hospital and has already undergone four surgeries and is preparing for additional chemotherapy.  She has lost her ability to speak, walk and most of her left arm mobility.  Most people would simply give up.  But not Kayla.  While at Kaiser LA, in spite of surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation therapy she arranged donations of over $400.00 for toys and blankets for the children at Kaiser and has raised $550.00 for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and will participate at Cobalt School this year.  While she can not walk, she will be in her wheelchair to do laps to raise money for others.

Kayla and her family are fighting to keep things as normal as possible but they are having their challenges. Currently the bathroom that Kayla uses is not Handicap Accessible, so her parents have to help her in and out of the shower. Their family vehicle is a truck which Kayla can no longer climb up into and is in need of repair.  Kayla needs her bathroom remodeled with handicap facilities so she can take a shower by herself and the family needs dependable transportation to take her the 176 mile round trip to her doctors at Kaiser LA where Kayla needs to receive treatments twice weekly.

Family friends have decided to help this courageous and unselfish 15 year old obtain these necessities by having a Golf Tournament at Spring Valley Lake Country Club.  The tournament is being held on June 18, 2011 and the cost is only $55.00 for non-members and $25.00 for members.  Individuals and businesses can sponsor tee signs for $100.00.  All money goes to a registered Non Profit for Kayla’s benefit and is tax deductable.

Questions regarding the Tournament can be directed to Pamela Alcaraz at 951-212-2017.
