High Desert Resource Network Fundraising Academy graduate lands $870,000 in grants for St. John of God Health Care Services
(Victorville)– St. John of God Health Care Services landed two grants totaling $870,000 from the San Bernardino County Department of Behavioral Health. The grants were the result of the Victorville-based substance abuse recovery center applying the fund raising, grant writing and non-profit management skills learned from the High Desert Resource Network’s Fundraising Academy.
“Astonishing results by one of our graduates is proof that it is worth the time investment nonprofits make to The Fundraising Academy,” said Vici Nagel, president and CEO of the High Desert Resource Network.
During the past few years, graduates of The Fundraising Academy have secured grants totaling in excess of $2,358,000!
The Fundraising Academy for Grassroots OrganizationsTM, which graduated its latest class of nonprofit managers and volunteers in May, advances the missions of non-government organizations by providing the skills and resources to professionalize their fundraising and develop sustainable sources of funding.
“I learned the cutting edge of what funders are looking for when meeting the needs for a successful grant proposal” said Christopher Guzman, outpatient service director and graduate of the Fundraising Academy. One grant was for $700,000 to fund outpatient services and the second grant of $170,000 over two years is for St. John’s recovery center.
The Fundraising Academy not only taught Guzman and other graduates fundraising skills, but techniques, such as succession plans, that ensure that the nonprofit continues even after its leadership moves on.
The next Fundraising Academy will be held at the Inland Empire United Way, 9644 Hermosa Ave. in Rancho Cucamonga beginning September 8, 2011. Scholarships are available and applications are due June 30.
