(Phelan)–Thunderstorms wreaked havoc on some Phelan roads early Wednesday afternoon, causing road closures in various areas.
CHP Dispatch told High Desert Daily that Highway 138 at Beekley Rd was closed due to debris but has been reopened. Another closure is on Palmdale Road and Oasis, which is closed all the way up to Sheep Creed Road due to debris in the road. CHP units are on the scene. There have been other reports of county roads in Phelan experiencing debris in the road as well.
For some Phelan residents, the storm is a silent one, as it came without notice or awareness to Phelan resident Faith Carrington. “I did not know there were storms. I have been inside all day. I guess I should go look outside.” Carrington told High Desert Daily on Wednesday afternoon.
More storms are expected throughout the day. There is also a flash flood alert for Lucerne and Apple Valleys in effect. It was also revealed that today alone the Inland Empire has suffered with 43 lightning strikes.
Once we hear about more closures, we will be sure to bring you the latest news.
