(Apple Valley)–The six man combo “Four Shadows Fall” entertained an enthusiastic crowd at the Apple Valley Civic Center Amphitheater Thursday night with an eclectic mix of old school rock, contemporary jazz/rock fusion and a health dose of original tunes.
Bruce Grogan, “reluctant” band manager said the band formed about 12 years ago as a quartet. He became the unofficial manager and hasn’t been able to shed the job since.
But as the band matured and things changed, new talent was recognized and brought into the group. Now the six member band includes original members Grogan on bass guitar, Albert Miranda on guitar and vocals, Milton Caylor on lead vocals and Josh Martin on Drums as well as newer members Danny Murcia on keyboards and the “kid” Gabe Delacruz on guitar.
Gabe was originally brought to the attention of the band by Albert, who was teaching him guitar. The other members of the band heard him play and added him to the group while he was still in High School. He had to get special permission to play some of the venues the band was booked in to, and Gabe even played a gig with the band the night before his prom.
Grogan said the primary musical influence on most of the members was blues, but listening to them play it became obvious there were other influences; Carlos Santana and Stevie Wonder among them. The big surprise from “Four Shadows Fall” comes when you listen to their very well written and arranged original songs and realize they are sending a message. Their original music is Contemporary Christian.
If you take a quick visit to their website www.fourshadowsfall.com you will see that this is not only a very talented band but a Music Ministry. You can also download music and check for upcoming performances and events as well as hear some of their original music.
Our local Apple Valley Rotary Club again sponsored the Beer Garden, where folks could enjoy the music along with a cold beer. And every week, there seem to be more and more food vendors offering their refreshing wares. This week saw the addition of Kona Ice, one of last year’s vendors and “Short Bus Ice Cream” that served out of a real converted school “short bus”.
Coming to the Amphitheater on Thursday August 11 is the Classic Rock group “From the Ashes”. And remember to bring a blanket or lawn chairs, but for safety and sanitation, please leave the pets at home.
