Fort Irwin to Host Job Fair Open To All

By Nikki Metzger

(Barstow) – On Thursday, September 8th job seekers in the Victor Valley will have a great opportunity to meet employers and have one on one interviews at Fort Irwin’s job fair.

Silvia Moreno, Employment Readiness Program Manager at Fort Irwin explained, “We have about 30-35 companies coming to the fair. Most of the agencies here on post will be there.  We also have a lot of representatives coming from off of the installation, companies like Raytheon, Coca Cola, and LAPD. We’ll have state, federal, and national employers there as well.”

“It’s a great opportunity for the employers to come here and see the talent and the skills that our job seekers have,” Moreno said. “There will be openings from entry level all the way to executive level jobs.”

The job fair will be held on from 10am-1pm on Thursday at Sandy Basin Community center. Bring extra copies of your resume to give to any employers you may be interested in applying with. Bring pen and paper to take notes and fill out applications.

“Dressing for success is so important. Dress professionally – this is your first impression, so dress like this is a job interview,” suggested Moreno.

The benefit of attending the job fair, according to Moreno, is the opportunity to meet with employers, do some networking, and to ask questions about the hiring process, the qualifications, and the benefits. “It is the chance to talk to the actual person doing the hiring and hand them your resume.  Most of the hiring process is done completely online these days, so this is a real benefit to the job seeker,” Moreno said.

To get on to the Fort Irwin installation, first stop by the visitor’s center and show your vehicle registration, proof of insurance, and a valid form of identification for any person over the age of 18. You will then be directed to the venue.

Moreno suggested arriving early and planning to stay for the entire fair. “We did have long lines at previous job fairs. Our last event, which was held in February, had about 560 job seekers.”
