The Opportunity Theater also includes a panel of local business and real estate professionals who will provide insight on the current market, local business opportunities in the High Desert and the business climate going forward. The program will conclude with a panel of Economic Development Directors from each community and the County of San Bernardino to discuss current projects taking place in their community and the advantages of doing business in the High Desert.
High Desert Opportunity is one part of a community-wide effort to foster economic development in the High Desert. Its role is to showcase, through various activities offered over one day, the advantages of doing business in the area. HDO was founded in 1981 and incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in 1985. The committee is composed of a group of local business professionals and community leaders who volunteer their time to organize and present this premier annual business conference.
Past keynote speakers at HDO have included Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Ben Stein, John Naber, Jack Canfield, Steve Forbes, Newt Gingrich, Oliver North, Terry Bradshaw and Elizabeth Dole among others.
In 2010, the conference drew more than 1,000 participants representing the fields of real estate, insurance, manufacturing, engineering, architecture, and economic development. According to HDO’s website, some were investors who own property in the High Desert or who were considering purchasing property. Many of the attendees were from out of the area, including from Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Inland Empire communities.
