By Staff Reports

(Apple Valley) – Join First 5 San Bernardino in the High Desert Saturday, October 15 at the Victor Valley Museum for free educational games and prizes at the All Aboard the Reading Railroad Literacy Fair sponsored by the San Bernardino County Museum Association. Perfect for children age 5 and under and their families, this free event will offer activities and information from programs across the County. The High Desert Mavericks Mascot will attend our October 15 event.

First 5 San Bernardino will show families the fun in developing daily reading habits and cultivating a love of books. Children will be invited into the Museum for free and can participate in the many activities located in the Museum’s Courtyard. Kindergarten and Preschool children will receive a back pack filled with school supplies and a healthy snack. Parents can receive information on the importance of early reading and how to incorporate books into their daily routines. The event will also focus on the importance of the parents’ role to read early and read aloud to their sons and daughters.

“Current research overwhelmingly supports the importance of facilitating early and emerging literacy skills in preschool-age children as a critical foundation for literacy development,” said Karen Scott, Executive Director of First 5 San Bernardino. Studies have shown that children who are read too often are more successful in school, helps with their brain stimulation and builds their self-esteem and listening skills.
