(Phelan)- – CalTrans crews will be working on State Route 18 just past the 138 at Sheep Creek wash overnight this week. Crews will be doing emergency repairs to a damaged culvert starting tonight.
The work will take place tonight and tomorrow from 8:00pm to 5:00am, and Friday from 10:00pm to 6:00am.
Drivers will be flagged through the closure will work is taking place. It is best to use an alternate route to avoid delays.
Remember that Caltrans has partnered with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) to provide enhanced speed and DUI enforcement in highway construction and maintenance zones.
“There will be an officer parked in the construction zone protecting the workers, and then another patrol officer will be working enforcement within the construction zone to ensure that people either slow down, or move over,” explained Officer Joaquin Zubieta with the Victorville CHP. “Officers will be on hand to ensure safety, and will ticket violators that are traveling too fast in work zones. And I want to remind people that fines in construction zones are doubled.”
Caltrans hopes that the presence of the officers will help to slow traffic or encourage vehicles to move over at least one lane from a highway work zone, as required by the Move Over law.
