(Hesperia) This afternoon, a Rabies Vaccination Clinic will be held in Hesperia, offering a variety of services at low prices and in the convenience of the evening.

The clinic will be held at the Hesperia Animal Shelter from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Rabies Vaccines will cost $10, but that isn’t all that is being offered at this clinic; $10 Dog or Cat Vaccines and $25 Microchipping (Includes Registration) will also be available. Payment is accepted in cash only, so be sure to show up prepared. A current Hesperia animal license is required for Hesperia residents.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), domestic species accounted for 8% of all rabid animals reported in the United States in 2010. The number of reported rabid domestic animals decreased among all domestic species except cats.

The CDC also reports that in 2010, cases of rabies in cats increased 1.0% compared with the number reported in 2009. The number of rabies cases reported in cats is routinely 3-4 times that of rabies reported in cattle or dogs. Pennsylvania reported the largest number of rabid domestic animals (72) for any state, followed by New York (51). In 2010 approximately 1.1% of cats and 0.3% of dogs tested for rabies were found positive.
