(Victorville) – During this holiday season of giving American Medical Response and Desert Valley Medical Group encourage High Desert residents to help them Fill the Ambulance with new toys, clothes and other items to be given to families in need in the Victor Valley.
Each year AMR and DVMG team up with local businesses to hold the collection events. “Every weekend we go out and collect toys, clothing, health and beauty, everything for adults down to children,” Mike Romo, Operations Manager with AMR explained. “Then we have a distribution day, this year it’s the 16th of December, where we invite the families to come and take the items they need to help them have a happy holiday.”
On Thursday morning the ambulance was parked outside the El Dorado Broadcasting studios of Y102 and Kat Country 100.7 FM. The donations were rolling in. “So far we’ve got a lot of clothing – there is a store, I’m not sure which one it was, that is going out of business so they donated all of the clothing,” Romo said.
Last weekend was their first collection event and they filled an ambulance, according to Romo. They have collected lots of board games and toys, along with some health and beauty items. “Normally we don’t have a lot of teen stuff so we’ve really been pushing that. And this year we’re getting a lot of stuff geared toward teens,” he said.
This weekend the ambulance will be at the fairgrounds at the Elves Workshop. Romo said, “We’ve got a couple of Monday Night Football events lined up at Oggi’s in Apple Valley. On December 12th we’ll be at Aspen Fitness in Hesperia and State Farm at Maple and Main.”
“Last year we helped 73 families, and this year we’re aiming for 100. We’ve got a ways to go, but it’s still early,” Romo said.
