(Victor Valley) – You can bring holiday cheer to a family in need this season by adopting a family through the High Desert Child, Adolescent and Family Services Center’s program.  For the second year in a row they are matching needy families with businesses, agencies and families who want to bring them Christmas joy.

High Desert Center is also taking applications for families that would like to be adopted. Cindi Burklow Executive Director of the High Desert Child, Adolescent and Family Services Center, said, “We are working to help those that are financially unable to provide for their families a means of having Christmas gifts and dinner at the holiday season. We want make this time of year a little bit better for people who aren’t able to do it for themselves.”

The application process includes providing documentation of income eligibility, photo ID for the parents, and birth certificates for the children. Then people in the community, or businesses, agencies, or families who wish to adopt a family can contact Burklow and she will match them up.

“I have the family fill out a little wish list for the kids and then I provide that information to whoever is doing the adopting,” said Burklow. “We usually arrange for them to bring their donations here to drop off. Then I have the family come pick it up, so it can remain kind of anonymous.”

Burklow has had different groups contact her to adopt a family. “I’ve been contacted by one of the branches of Bank of America, and they want to adopt a family. Last year, some of the officers at the prison in Adelanto took up a collection and donated cash. I usually try to do whatever I can to help facilitate whatever it is they want to donate.”

There are many ways to help the families – donations of gift cards, items, or choose a family to adopt.

“We are a United Way member agency, we’ve been in business for 25 years and we provide counseling, tutoring and prevention programs for youths, outpatient drug and alcohol treatment, supervised visitation, and many different services,” said Burklow.
