(Apple Valley)– – Alaska USA Federal Credit Union members made more than 4,200 deposits during the month of November. Not to their checking or savings accounts, but to support their local food banks.
Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and the Alaska USA Foundation teamed up for the annual Cash for Cans fundraiser, collecting cash donations to benefit community food banks. Throughout the month, members generously gave to the Cash for Cans drive at their neighborhood Alaska USA branches and raised more than $40,000 combined in California, Washington, and Alaska. California donations benefit the following local food banks: Salvation Army, Desert Manna Ministries in Barstow, and The Cantry in Big Bear.
“The Cash for Cans drive exceeded our expectations as members stepped up to support food banks in the High Desert,” said Marci Aguayo, Vice President Branch Administration, California Division. “Many food banks have seen increases in demand during the last few years, which has made the need for funds even greater. As a community-minded organization, we’re proud that Alaska USA can help meet the challenge by making it easy for members to donate when they come into their neighborhood branch.”
