(Victorville)–Now that winter weather has arrived, the Victorville Water District is reminding customers to adjust their automated (sprinkler) watering schedules. The Victorville Water District’s Winter Watering Hours are in effect from October 1 through May 31. During this period, automated watering is permitted only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
During the winter, watering at night can cause runoff, which can then become frozen and present a slipping hazard. This is why the Winter Watering Hours are set for daylight hours.
The Victorville Water District is also encouraging customers to reduce landscape irrigation at this time. During the winter, most plants slow their growth significantly. The plants simply do not need much water during the winter months. Reducing irrigation watering during the winter will save customers money, prevent runoff, and reduce ice hazards. Customers are also reminded to turn their irrigations timers to “OFF” whenever rain or high winds are forecast.
For more information on Winter Watering Hours or other water conservation ideas, residents and businesses should contact the Victorville Water District Conservation Division at 1-866-955-4426. Free in-home and landscape water audits are available. The District is also accepting applications for the Cash For Grass turf removal program.
Customers who observe water waste, overspray, or runoff are encouraged to call the Conservation Division’s hotline at 1-866-955-4426.
