(Victorville)– – In late January, seventeen Chinese foreign exchange students through the Education Resource Development Trust (ERDT) Program had the opportunity to tour Victor Valley Community Hospital. The students toured several hospital departments including a brief stop in the Emergency Department, Medical/Surgical Floors, and the Ambulatory/Outpatient Surgery Unit.
RNs in the toured departments were available for brief Q&A sessions with the students. The focus of their tour was to give them an overview of how healthcare works in the United States as compared to China. The students were well-informed and had very specific questions in terms of nursing, physicians, and clinical areas of the hospital. After the tour, the students were guests for lunch in the hospital cafeteria before they were off to Las Vegas for the next leg of their journey. They ended their tour with an in-depth Q&A session with Nedal Alqalqili, RN, the hospital’s Director of Medical/Surgical Departments.
The students stayed with local host families, two students per family, for seventeen of the twenty-one day program. The final four days were spent in San Francisco before departing for China.
