(Victorville) Desert Valley Hospital has opened their new, $38 million dollar expansion. In addition, the hospital has received the licensure for their Open Heart program for their new facility under review and licensing forthcoming.

The 50,000 square foot expansion includes 53-medical and surgical beds, a 12-bed intensive and coronary care unit, 2 cardiac catheterization laboratories, 2 operating rooms, an open-heart surgery suite, 12-pre-post procedure cath lab beds, 4 pre-op surgery beds, chapel, and 2 spacious lobbies and waiting areas. The new expansion will serve the growing need in the High Desert, as well as prepare it for the needs in the future.

“This new wing allows us to consolidate services and add new, updated technologies and equipment which will raise the level of patient care,” stated Desert Valley CEO, Margaret R. Peterson, PhD in a press release. “We have also made every effort to create a healing environment for patients and their families including comfortable waiting areas with plenty of natural lighting.”

Dr. Peterson touched on the impeccable timing for the opening of the extension in a telephone call with High Desert Daily on Friday. “As you may or may not be aware, this is the busy season for the hospital, it usually extends from about December to about March, sometimes going into April. So the timing is just perfect for us to be able to have this building open for the patients in our community.”

Jana Bullock, the Director of Marketing for Desert Valley Hospital, spoke on the Open Heart program as well as a public Grand Opening in a statement to High Desert Daily, “Our new facility has received licensure with the Open Heart program under review and licensing forthcoming.  We are excited to be able to open during this busy time of year where admissions are high due to the flu season and other winter illnesses.  We are working on our plan to move patients and ancillary services in phases over the next several weeks and coordinating the Grand Opening for the community with a date that will be announced soon.”

Check back with High Desert Daily for more information on the extension, as well as on the public Grand Opening as the information becomes available.
