Local Business Can Learn How To Help Their Communities

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)- – Local business owners and entrepreneurs can learn how to add social responsibility and environmental performance as part of their business operations. The basic steps will be shared at a scholarship fundraiser presented by Cal State San Bernardino’s College of Business and Public Administration’s Business Alliance on Thursday, Feb. 9.

“Profits, People, Planet,” will be held from 5:30-9:30 p.m. at the Ontario Convention Center, 2000 E. Convention Center Way. The cost for dinner is $50 or $45 each if purchasing two or more tickets. Sponsorships and tables are also available. To register, visit the CSUSB Business Alliance website at www.csusbbusinessalliance.com. Parking is free.

The program, developed by CSUSB Business Alliance program chair Christopher A. Suchanek, chief executive officer of Monrovia-based Firm Media, will focus on “3BL” – triple bottom line accounting, which expands the traditional measure of financial performance to include social and ecological performance. The phrase “3BL” was coined by John Elkington in his 1998 book “Cannibals with Forks: the Triple Bottom.”

The program will feature Dale Partridge, chief executive officer of Sevenly.org of Corona, which donates $7 to charity for every specially designed T-shirt it sells; and Nathan Westwick, chief executive officer of Wild Goose Coffee Co. of Redlands, which donates enough money to buy 10 pounds of food to a local food bank for every pound of coffee sold.

There will also be a special screening of the TOM’s Shoes documentary, “Start Something that Matters.”

The Business Alliance was created to build partnerships between the inland Southern California business community and the CSUSB College of Business and Public Administration.

Proceeds from the program will be used to provide students with Business Alliance Scholarships. For more information, contact Phil Bolda at (909) 537-7295 or by e-mail at pbolda@csusb.edu or Shelly Brown at (909) 537-5771 or by e-mail at sbrown@csusb.edu.
