Apple Valley Mayor And Officials Reach Out To Community

By Staff Reports

(Apple Valley)– It’s not always easy to speak your mind or share your ideas with government officials, or meet your mayor for that matter.  Citizens have an opportunity to meet with Apple Valley Mayor Barb Stanton without attending a council meeting as the mayor sends an invitation to all to attend a casual and relaxed morning at Johnnie D’s Restaurant on Thursday April 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. for “Coffee with the Mayor.”

Mayor Stanton says she welcomes her neighbors and their inquiries, hearing suggestions such as, “How about a skating rink?” or, “What’s going on with the golf course?”  as a couple of thoughts and questions shared by those in attendance at the two previous coffees.

“Questions flowed just like the coffee,” said Mayor Stanton. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our neighbors who feel alienated or uninformed about what’s going on in town.” Stanton went on to say, “Open, transparent and available government officials are sorely needed in this country and Apple Valley is setting the pace for others to follow.”

Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company General Manager Scott Weldy answered questions regarding the cost of water and what expectations are for the future. School Board Member Lisa Lawrence answered a question about how the Apple Valley Unified School District addresses the problem of “baggy pants”, and also discussed new programs at the schools. Town Manager Frank Robinson responded to questions about the park system in town and the possibility of outsourcing maintenance services, and Yucca Loma Bridge.

Key Town staff and representatives from other local agencies will again be in attendance. All questions and suggestions are welcome.

No reservations are necessary. Guests may drop in anytime during the posted hours and the first cup of coffee is free. Johnnie D’s is located on the northwest corner of Bear Valley Road and Apple Valley Road.
