District Attorney Releases Gang Statistics

(Victor Valley)–  – The latest gang statistics for the first quarter of 2012 have been compiled by the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office. Statistics for the quarter of Jan. 1, 2012, through March 31, 2012, show that 337 cases were filed from all divisions. There were 135 state prison commitments obtained with a total of 1,282 years of state prison. 71 gang enhancements were found true and 4 were found guilty by jury trial.

Since the Gang Program’s inception in July 2005, 7,013 cases have been filed; 2 on death row; 4,255 state prison commitments; 29,210 years + 136 life terms in state prison; 1,529 gang enhancements have been found true and 241 were found guilty by jury trial.

“We refuse to back down in our fight against gangs in San Bernardino County,” said District Attorney Mike Ramos. “The people in our gang units, from our attorneys to support staff, are fully committed to running the gangs out of this county. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I will not allow these local terrorists to run our streets. Not on my watch.”

    I would be interested to know exactly what “gang enhancements found true” means, and how that differs from “found guilty by jury trial”.

    Are the statistics broken down by location / area / municipality when the gang members were apprehended? How many were apprehended in Spring Valley Lake, Victorville, Hesperia, Apple Valley, Adelanto, Helendale?
