(Hesperia) – Three area finalists for the My Favorite Teacher essay writing contest will be recognized and presented certificates by Hesperia School Board President Chris Bentley on Wednesday at Barnes and Noble in the Mall of Victor Valley.
As part of the Educator Appreciation Week celebration, the Victorville Barnes & Noble will hold a reception on Wednesday April 18th for Barnes & Noble’s My Favorite Teacher Awards, an annual contest which allows students to tell their communities how much they appreciate their teachers.
Jerry Ellis, Community Relations Manager for Barnes & Noble Booksellers said, “We are excited to honor our finalists in the ‘My Favorite Teacher Awards’. We asked all of the school districts in High Desert to have their students write essays about their favorite teachers. They sent them to us; we graded them, and picked the finalist that will be recognized at this event. We are thrilled to have Chris Bentley here to do the presentations.”
As a special addition to the festivities, Barnes & Noble has invited the author of the new surprise genre-busting hit novel “The Black Hills” by Rod Thompson to do a public book signing from 3 – 5 p.m. for anyone purchasing a copy. Immediately following the signing, Thompson will address the educators regarding “The Return of the Western and How It Has Changed”, along with “Writing and Marketing for Publication”. After that will be an educators-only book signing succeeding an exclusive reading from “The Black Hills”, which has been nominated by the Western Fictioneers for the “Peacemaker 2011 Best First Novel Award”.
Spring Educator Appreciation runs through April 22nd. All Barnes & Noble stores and Barnes & Noble.com are offering special discounts and promotions for pre K-grade 12 educators and administrators, which includes a 25% discount on personal and classroom purchases.
The event is this Wednesday, April 18, at 6:00 PM at The Mall of Victor Valley. Call 760-245-3370 for more information.
