Free Comic Book Day Is Saturday, May 5th

(Victor Valley)–) This Saturday marks the return of one of the biggest days of the year for pop culture: the 2012 Free Comic Book Day. Looking for a free comic book, costumed characters and to help some worthy causes? Then this is the event for you. But what is Free Comic Book Day?

“It’s to introduce and reintroduce people to a classic American art form,” said Chris Brady, Co-Owner of 4 Color Fantasies, a comic shop located in Rancho Cucamonga. Started back in 2002, Free Comic Book Day occurs at participating comic book shops across the country every first Saturday in May, and this year is as big as ever. This is 4 Color Fantasies seventh Free Comic Book Day, and the store has some special guests and events planned for the day with something in store for everyone.

“This year, we will have thousands of free comics to give away. We will have over 40 different creators: writers and artists. We will be having a charity Fanboys Vs. Zombies dunk booth for the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. We have Boom Studios, Aspen Studios and Arcana all here. Free food, over 40 different costumed characters, we will have lots.” Many of those costumed characters will come in the form of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars costume enthusiasts group, and the Cobra Night Watch, which brings to life the heroes and villains of the G.I Joe universe. The Cobra Night Watch is also partnering with Lifestream to have a blood drive at the event, with loads of free comics for those that stop by and donate.  Comics available as part of Free Comic Book Day this year include Transformers, Star Wars, and the stars of this year’s blockbuster film, the Avengers.

Also planned for the day are appearances by pro wrestlers from NWA Championship Wrestling, a bounce house and color station for the children, face painting and more. 4 Color Fantasies in located at 7172 Archibald Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga, and the event will run on Saturday from 11am-4pm.
