Bear Valley Road Closed For Several Hours Due To Power Lines Down

(Victorville) – One of the busiest roads in the High Desert was shut down for several hours Saturday afternoon. Bear Valley Road was closed between 3rd and 5th Avenues from about 1:30 until about 9:00pm, according to police.

Reports are that a car lost control and ran into a power pole. Both caught fire.  The driver was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.  The fire was quickly put out, but power lines were down across the road and Southern California Edison was called out to repair the lines and the pole.

All lanes on Bear Valley Road were closed while crews made those repairs.  Traffic was diverted to Sequoia Road to the south at 5th Ave going east, and at 3rd Ave going west.  There was a heavy back up as drivers slowly moved between stop signs to get back on to Bear Valley Rd.

Original estimates were that the road would be open in about an hour, but that deadline was extended until 10:00pm.  Police said the road was opened around 9:00pm.
