Operation Desert Heat To Target Gang Activity

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)–San Bernardino County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, County Sheriff Rod Hoops and District Attorney Mike Ramos recently announced the initiation of “Operation Desert Heat,” a summer-long series of sweeps and saturation patrols throughout the Victor Valley designed to suppress gang activity. “Gang activity continues to be the most serious criminal threat faced by the citizens of the Victor Valley, and Desert Heat will make gang members painfully aware that they cannot run the streets with impunity,” Supervisor Mitzelfelt said. Supervisor Mitzelfelt noted that there are approximately 2,000 identified gang members in the Victor Valley and more than 17,000 countywide as members of 750 gangs. In addition, burglaries and vehicle thefts have increased significantly in the past year.
