San Joaquin Students Help Spread News On Bath Salt Epidemic

By Staff Reports

(Victor Valley)–A group of students from San Joaquin Valley College decided to get involved and visited local smoke shops in the area, in an effort to raise awareness of the terrible effects of bath salts. The event was put together by Corie Lopez of IPS and also involved some local media outlets. Bath Salts have been in the news lately. Anyone remember the case of the Florida man caught chewing on the face of another?

It was later determined that he was under the influence of Bath Salts. The explanation – if there is one – seems to be that bath salts can trigger a full-blown psychotic episode with extreme delusions. “Bath Salts”, the newest fad to hit the shelves (virtual and real), is the latest addition to a growing list of items that young people can obtain to get high. The synthetic powder is sold online and in drug paraphernalia stores under a variety of names.

The students presented the local store clerks at the smoke shops with information about the effects and illegality of Bath Salts. “I was amazed that one store actually stopped selling the products immediately after our visit.” said Krystal Carrillo, San Joaquin Valley College, Hesperia Campus..
