(Victor Vallley)–Training with a goal in mind will ignite your motivation. Many people start with the desire to complete a half marathon or entire marathon but quickly lose focus. There are a few tricks that can be utilized to help you stick to your goal and accomplish it.

Pay in advance. Not only will you save money by signing up early; it’s also a great form of accountability. Talking about doing a half marathon is one thing but most people will feel more motivated when they are forced to put their money where their mouth is.

Find a free training program. Many web sites offer free half marathon or marathon training programs. Typically, the program will start you off with a smaller run (2-3 miles) and add a half or full mile each week. Also, for those with smart phones there are many apps that will help you to accomplish your marathon running goals.

Disneyland Half Marathon. What better way to get motivated than to sign up for a half marathon with portion of the course taking you through the Magical Kingdom? The Disneyland Half Marathon will take place on Sept 1, 2012 which gives you a few months prepare. Training early in the morning can help you improve your time since most marathons begin before or shortly after sunrise. This marathon begins at 5:45 a.m.

Run For Your Lives. If you think Run For Your Lives is an organization that donates to charity – you’re wrong! It’s actually a 5k obstacle course (about 3.1 miles) that’s infested with zombies. Each runner has a belt with three flags in which the zombies are trying to chase you down and rip them off. Survivors are urged to make their way to the safety zone (finish line) with at least one flag remaining. This run will take place on October 20, 2012 in Temecula, CA.

Mavericks Mud Run. If you are looking for a run that will be donating to a good cause in our local community then the High Desert Mavericks Mud Run is just that. This 5k mud run will send a wave of runners every 30 minutes from 7a.m. to 9a.m. through this muddy course that contains over 25 obstacles. This mud run takes place July 21, 2012.
