(Adelanto)– – Planning to run for office this fall? There are lots of forms, rules and regulations that you need to know. The city of Adelanto is hosting a free workshop this week that will help you understand all of those rules and forms this Thursday evening.
Cindy Herrera, City Clerk for Adelanto, explained what candidates can expect at this workshop, “I have an instructor come from the Fair Political Practice Commission (FPPC) in Sacramento. She will go over all of those candidate campaign statements and answer candidates’ questions. For example: can they loan themselves money? And if they can where do they report it? Things like that.”
Herrera said that this workshop is aimed at candidates and their treasurers, that it is beneficial for both to hear the same thing. The instructor will address many topics, including how important it is to have a separate campaign account, separate from personal funds, and that those funds should not be co-mingled.
The instructor will have a power point presentation, handouts, manuals, and workbooks for attendees. Refreshments will be provided and it is a good opportunity for candidates to network in a relaxed atmosphere.
“It is a great workshop to go to. For some people that have run for office before it is a good refresher. For those that are brand new and are struggling with filling out the forms, she explains everything so that they realize it is not as difficult and scary as they think,” said Herrera. “That wonderful manual #2 is their saving grace. It’s like their bible and it gives them examples of how to complete those forms.”
This workshop is open to all candidates, not just those running for office in Adelanto. Herrera said that people are coming from all over to attend, including Barstow, Victorville, a few from Hesperia, even as far away as Big Bear. “I do this workshop every time we have a presidential election. I think it is very beneficial to put on a workshop of this kind.”
The workshop will be Thursday, August 9th, from 7:00-9:00pm in the Adelanto City Hall Chambers, 11600 Air Expressway. Call 760-246-2300 extension 3018 or 3090 for more information.
