(Phelan)–With just (over a month) until our biggest event, enthusiasm is slow to build this year. Aside from our two largest sponsors, only T.A.N.Y.A.’s has paid for a $500 level sponsorship. If we are going to have sponsors in ads, on flyers and posters, t-shirts (if we have them), etc.—then they need to have paid before we can include them.
It seems, every year, as though the same people will commit to showing up the day of the event (thank God). But there is an awful lot of work that must be done ahead of time for there to be an event to show up to. A theme, a grand marshal, dignitaries, vendors, parade entries, entertainment, permits, barricades, trash, radios, publicity, car show, security, trophies, insurance, set-up, teardown, street clean-up, the Chamber booth, announcing, raffles, games, contests, right-of-way, permissions, more permits—the list goes on and on.
And, of course, the biggest of all these items is money. It will cost about $7,500 to $8,000 just to put on Phelan Phun Day this year. Without companies, clubs and organizations reserving vendor booths for just $85 (min.), or our business sponsors and community partners kicking in, the event will cease to be a fundraiser for the Chamber. That will directly affect the things we are able to do for our beloved Phelan and Pinon Hills. For instance, where will we get the $1,500.00 for scholarships? How will we keep a presence with a staffed office? What about other events that cost us to do which are budgeted from PPPD proceeds like Safe Halloween?
Let’s get it in gear and get it done for our community. And let’s have some fun!
