High Desert Daily
(Victorville)– – Another fantastic show opens tonight at the High Desert Center for the Arts – “Footloose” is presented by Hannett-Thorn Productions and will run weekends through September 22nd.
The story of a teen who is transplanted from Chicago to a small town in the south after his father leaves the family. The teen is already bitter about that, but the town has issues of its own, and they see him as an outsider. The local reverend, has convinced this town to ban dancing because the reverend lost his son as 3 other teens in a car accident after they had left a party several years before. The reverend’s daughter is in the midst of rebelling against her father by taking up with the town tough guy…and on the story goes. It really is a great show, a good theme, and in the end all wounds are healed, bonds are restored, and there is a happy ending.
Hannett-Thorn’s production of Footloose is very family friendly. It is funny and charming, an evening that will make you glad you came to the theater. You’ll be tapping your toe and singing along.
Danny Thorn of Hannett-Thorn Productions said, “Once again our choreographer, Jerri Romero-Hudgens, has just out done herself. The show is tightly choreographed. We have a great group of kids, about 40 people on stage. We’ve expanded our pool of actors – we continue to find new talent in the High Desert. I think Earline and Windy Jo are going to steal the show. They are so vibrant and cute; they are just going to shine.”
He continued, “I’m excited about the choreography, I’m excited about the fact that we’ve got a great youth ensemble, we’ve got some good adult participation, and this is a very exciting show with a very good moral value to it.”
Thorn went on to explain that there is quality entertainment here in the High Desert at amazingly reasonable prices. He said that one of the biggest challenges they face, not just their production company but all of the production companies, is getting people convinced to come out and see the live shows. “I really can’t stress how entertaining live theater can be. For a very low dollar amount – if this show was playing down the hill we would be charging $49-$79 to see it. I don’t think anyone will be disappointed in the $10-$12 they will spend to see this show.”
They are also excited about their new website: www.hannett-thorn-productions.com. “People can log on, we’ve got our sponsors listed, and an application to become a sponsor. There’s also a sign-up sheet to receive e-mails when we post for auditions, and a history of what we’ve done. And pretty soon you’ll be able to buy tickets there,” Thorn said.
