(Victor Valley)–“I am a husband, father, and small businessman. Victorville needs a voice on the council that understands our City’s issues and can work with current members to get things done. As a husband and father I want Victorville to be a City that provides our children the opportunity to work hard and achieve great things. As a businessman, I know what it’s like to balance budgets and keep people employed.” These are some of the thoughts that Ryan McEachron, Mayor of Victorville, uses to briefly summarize himself and his qualifications. Despite the stigma that most politicians get, Mayor McEachron has everyday concerns and – just like the rest of the residents – has high hopes to see his home town flourish and grow.

Ryan is a High Desert native with an impressive story. He graduated from Apple Valley High School in 1991 and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Communication from Arizona State University in 1995. He is involved in several community organizations such as the Victorville Rotary – serving as president from 2004-2005. He was selected, from among his peers, to represent the city of Victorville as a member of the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) Board of Directors that oversees transportation funding and projects.

Additionally, he represents the City on SANBAG Mountain/Desert Measure I Committee and is the City’s delegate. His leadership among peers continually shined as it earned him appointments to a number of positions: the Victorville Planning Commission – serving 2001-2008, Desert Mountain Education Advisory Committee – serving 2002 – present and the San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board – serving 2000-2002.

He also served, for six years, on the Victorville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and served as the Chamber Chairman of the Board from 2000-2001.

Ryan has an equally impressive business background. He is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of ISU Insurance Services – ARMAC Agency in Victorville. He also has the Ryan McEachron Charitable Foundation (RMCF), which is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting public safety in the community and providing positive activities for its youth. “We work hand in hand with the sheriff’s Department” Ryan explained. “There’s an afterschool program, mainly for at-risk youth. We [also] have a leadership class.” The Foundation is hoping to do more in the area of public safety in the near future.

The Mayor is currently up for re-election for the council this year.
“I am hoping to start taking the city back in a direction to provide additional services for the community.

McEachron spoke on his plans for the city, if re-elected. “The roads are in need of repair – I would like to see a strong road maintenance plan in place.”
There is currently a 14% unemployment rate in Victorville, which is higher than the state’s 12% unemployment rate. Ryan shared his thoughts and plans for job growth in the city in saying “Victorville has been successful in attracting large corporations to the city.

The focus should continue in the direction of bringing in the large businesses to create more jobs for the city and develop job growth.”

Ryan feels that this has been successful in the past and will continue to be successful and prove a viable employment resource. Being that he is an advocate for small businesses; it is seemingly surprising that he is a supporter of bringing large corporations in to take over the city.
“I feel that it will enhance the support of small business. Jobs that they [large corporations] ultimately create will provide opportunities for the small business owners to cater to those employees” Ryan said, in explaining his stance.

He concluded in saying “It’s an economic shot in the arm every time we can bring in a corporation to create jobs.”

Ryan has a, seemingly, personal mission statement in quoting “I want to make sure we don’t miss an opportunity to improve our quality of life and restore prosperity to our region.” In looking at his history and the impression that he has made on his peers; it appears to be a statement of integrity.
