(Victorville)–The City of Victorville is again organizing a City-wide Community Cleanup Day in October. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, October 20th. Volunteers who help collect litter will receive a free t-shirt and discount coupons for lunch at more than a dozen participating Victorville restaurants.
The deadline to register for the event is October 4th. Interested volunteers need to fill out a registration/waiver form and send it back to the City of Victorville Solid Waste Division by October 4 to receive a t-shirt. Registration forms are available on the City of Victorville website at www.ci.victorville.ca.us (Quick Link: Community Cleanup). Volunteers can also pick up registration/waiver forms at City Hall, 14343 Civic Drive. City Hall is open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Individuals are encouraged to join with friends, family, and community groups to create teams to participate. The event is open to all High Desert residents. Businesses are also encouraged to create teams to participate.
The Victorville Community Cleanup Day is a semi-annual event, held each October and April. The event began in October 2007. Since then, more than 4,000 volunteers have worked together to collect over 37 tons of litter from Victorville roadsides. Last April, over 400 people volunteered, collecting almost 2 tons of litter from 25 different sites around the City. The goal for this October’s event is to recruit over 500 volunteers to help out.
For more information or to request a waiver by mail, potential volunteers and sponsors should call the City of Victorville Community Services Department at 760-955-5095.
