(Hesperia) – Residents of Hesperia have been waiting with eager anticipation for the opening of the City’s first Walmart store. Recently, however, Walmart announced that due to construction delays in the fresh food and garden sections of the store, the opening has been postponed until September 26, 2012 at 7:30am. “Our residents have been waiting for this Walmart like children wait for Santa,” said Mayor Russ Blewett. “This year, Santa will just be a little late.”
The Hesperia Walmart broke ground last summer, the same day as the new Victorville Walmart, however, Hesperia had more infrastructure to construct including sewer, curbs and utilities, adding a few weeks to the project schedule. Hesperia’s new store will be 195,350 square feet, with modern features and wide, bright aisles. Walmart Supercenters offer a one-stop shopping experience for electronics, apparel, toys and home furnishing with the added convenience of a grocery store with fresh produce, bakery, deli and meat and dairy products.
“We have had such a great experience working with Walmart on this project,” said City Manager Mike Podegracz. “Although there has been a slight delay, we have been assured that the finished product will be well worth the wait.”
