(Victorville) – Today is the day that the doors will open to customers at the new Walmart Supercenter in Victorville. The “old” Walmart on Bear Valley and Balsam closed its doors for the last time Tuesday night and everything has been moved to the new location in the Dunia Plaza at Bear Valley and Amargosa.
This particular project is the first Walmart in the Victor Valley with groceries. The new site is over 193,000 square feet and includes food, a Tire Lube Express center, and a McDonald’s restaurant. Walmart Supercenters offer a one-stop shopping experience for electronics, apparel, toys and home furnishing with the added convenience of a grocery store with fresh produce, bakery, deli and meat and dairy products.
Walmart is one of the largest employers in the Victor Valley with over 1500 existing employees between the current Victorville and Apple Valley locations, and the distribution center. This new store added another 85 employees to the staff of 300 that transferred over from the former location, according to officials.
The Walmart Supercenter in Hesperia is set to open on September 26th due to construction delays in the fresh food and garden sections of the store. The Hesperia Walmart broke ground last summer, the same day as the new Victorville Walmart, however, Hesperia had more infrastructure to construct including sewer, curbs and utilities, adding a few weeks to the project schedule.
