(Victor Valley)–All Aboard the Reading Railroad returns to the Victor Valley Museum on October 6th, 2012 from 10am-3pm, to provide families of children aged 5 and under with free museum admission, resources, and reading activities as a part of First 5 San Bernardino’s annual “Read Early, Read Aloud!” Early Literacy Campaign. A number of agencies and programs will provide school readiness information, community resources and educational material for parents while face painting and balloon art entertain children who will leave with backpacks and books for their journey as early readers.
“We’re excited to present All Aboard the Reading Railroad which not only provides access to experience our local museums, but puts tools in the hands for children to take home with their families so that they can excel in kindergarten and beyond,” says Karen E. Scott, Executive Director for First 5 San Bernardino. “Early reading can make a world of a difference in a child’s learning experience by improving their communication skills, and creating an opportunity for families to bond together through education.”
Participating community organizations include Lucerne Valley Branch Library, Walden Family Services, IEHP, Desert Sanctuary Inc., Ready 4 Reading Book Club, Children’s Network, Sterling Solutions for Pedestrian Safety, Save the Children, Victor Community Support Services, and American Lung Association. Baby, Toddler and Preschool Reading Check-up information will be provided to measure children’s progress in reading.
