(Victor Valley)– – The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday awarded a contract to pave a one-mile section of Caughlin Road in Phelan.
“This project will improve access and safety for motorists in the Phelan area, not just with pavement but by eliminating flooding,” said Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt. “This is one of many efforts we have undertaken to catch up on much-needed road improvements in the Phelan area and the rest of the unincorporated High Desert.”
Caughlin Road is currently a dirt road and will be paved with one lane in each direction from Phelan Road to north of Smoke Tree Road, a distance of just over a mile. In addition, all-weather drainage facilities will be constructed to alleviate flooding during storms that impedes travel down the road.
There were six bids submitted and the contract was awarded to Vance Corp. of Rialto with a low bid of $1,122,606. Construction is scheduled to begin in October and be complete in January 2013.
