Friends Of The Victor Valley Museum To Hold Inaugural Fundraiser

By Staff Reports

(Apple Valley)– – The newly formed Friends of the Victor Valley Museum is holding its inaugural fundraiser and reception Thursday, November 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to kick-off an ongoing effort to raise funds and promote community awareness and involvement in the Victor Valley Museum.

“The Victor Valley Museum is a historical, cultural and scientific treasure in the High Desert, and it deserves the full support of the community, including financial support, so it can continue to thrive and serve the citizens of the entire county for generations to come,” said First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt.

The old Victor Valley Museum and Art Gallery was supported by private donors for nearly 35 years until financial problems threatened to force closure of the museum. Museum boosters approached Supervisor Mitzelfelt and asked if the County of San Bernardino would be able to take it over. It had long been a goal of Supervisor Mitzelfelt to bring a branch of the San Bernardino County Museum in the High Desert, and the County Board of Supervisors agreed to accept the donation of the museum.

The building underwent a complete, year-long renovation and new displays were created. The museum re-opened in March 2011.

The creation of the non-profit Friends of the Victor Valley Museum will allow additional fundraising from private donations and corporate and foundation grants and will support outreach and volunteer efforts to ensure the museum remains on strong footing. Supervisor Mitzelfelt has pledged $25,000 of remaining First District Discretionary Funds as matching funds for Friends of the Victor Valley Museum to provide support for programs, fundraising, advertising, displays and/or exhibits at the Victor Valley Museum, as well as an additional $100,000 for a new display.

The November 8 event will be held at the Victor Valley Museum, 11873 Apple Valley Road in Apple Valley. The cost to attend is $25 per person or $40 per couple. For members of the San Bernardino County Museum Association, the cost is $20 per person or $35 per couple.
