(Apple Valley)– Despite having a lean budget and a skeleton crew staff, the Town of Apple Valley continues to maintain its facilities and put on high quality community events and activities.
Part of this success is due to dedicated and talented staff like Ken Martin, Maintenance Worker II who was recently named the Town of Apple Valley’s Employee of the Quarter.
Parks and Recreation Manager Ralph Wright, said, “As with many of our departments, Facilities is short staffed, but Ken ensures that all of the work he performs is superbly done and is completed in a timely fashion.”
Ken has worked with the town for more than nine years. His responsibilities encompass completing maintenance and improvement projects at town hall, the development services building, the police department, the Town’s aquatic center and James Woody Community Center. He was instrumental in completing the rehabilitation of the kitchen at the community center. More than 50 years old, the location still serves as an important gathering spot in the community, thanks to the care provided by Ken and the rest of the Facilities crew.
In addition to routine maintenance and facility upgrades, Martin has been a valuable asset to the Special Events Department. Julie Gilmer, Special Events Coordinator, nominated Ken for the award and explained that he offers sound solutions to any issues that come up and takes care of tasks often before they are due.
“His support is immensely important and beneficial to us in providing our community with ‘A Better Way of Life’ through special events,” said Gilmer.
Ken was recognized for his achievements at a council meeting in October.
