(Apple Valley)– In today’s economy, it is vital for businesses to be more efficient with fewer employees. The Town of Apple Valley is no different. Fortunately, the Town has employees like Public Services Assistant Tina Kuhns, whose productive work ethic earned her the designation as the Town’s 2012 Employee of the Year.
“Tina is the coordinator of every important task that is being carried out for me and Public Services Department every day, ” said Dennis Cron, Assistant Town Manager of Municipal Operations and Contract Services. “Her level of professionalism is outweighed only by her willing cooperation and desire to be helpful to all who need it.”
Kuhns was hired in 2004 as a clerk/typist and was quickly promoted to Public Services Technician. She will soon earn her Construction Technology and Public Works certificates from Victor Valley College. A testament to Kuhns’s dedication to her professional development, Kuhns was taking a class final and was unable to attend the Town’s annual service award dinner earlier this month when her award was announced.
“I feel extremely honored to be chosen as Employee of the Year and it feels good to know that hard work and dedication pays off,” Kuhns said.
Among her long list of accomplishments that have improved customer service to the public and her fellow co-workers, Kuhns was responsible for tracking and processing all of the contracts associated with the construction of the recently completed public works facility as well as the grant management of the photovoltaic parking lot shade structure that was completed behind town hall earlier this year. She does all of this while performing administrative-based functions such as maintaining multiple calendars, scheduling meetings and appointments, handling customer calls for public services, public works/street maintenance, solid waste and recycling, wastewater, and providing service to walk-in customers.
The award is designated by co-workers from a pool of employees who were previously designated as Employees of the Quarter during the calendar year.
“While all of the nominees were qualified to be named Employee of the Year, a majority of the staff chose Tina for her unique qualities and recognized her for the great example she represents for the public and staff alike,” said Cron. “She truly goes above and beyond in every respect, to provide the type of service to Town residents that truly reflects ‘A Better Way of Life’ and captures the respect of her co-workers.”
