(Victor Valley)–The Victor Valley College Foundation and the Inland Empire Chapter of American Red Cross have joined forces again to produce the High Desert Economic Summit. The 2013 event will be held April 10 at the Victor Valley College Performing Arts Center. This marks the second year that the two charities have collaborated to produce the event.
“We found a great partner when we collaborated on the High Desert Economic Summit for the first time last year,” said Ginger Ontiveros, Executive Director of the Victor Valley College Foundation. “The work they do, like the work we do, is important to our region. We are happy to continue this partnership that brings valuable information to our community and helps us both to better serve our neighbors.”
In 2011, as the High Desert Chapter of the American Red Cross merged with the Inland Empire Chapter, Red Cross leadership questioned their ability to facilitate the annual economic information conference and announced the event would be retired. The Victor Valley College Foundation immediately sought an opportunity to ensure the Summit would continue to provide valuable economic trend analysis and development insights to the High Desert communities and a new partnership was born.
The event will benefit both organizations.
The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. The Inland Empire Chapter provides direct assistance to individuals affected by man-made or natural disasters, ranging from single-family home fires to larger events such as floods, earthquakes and catastrophic incidents.
The Victor Valley College Foundation changes lives by helping people to access educational opportunities in the high desert. The Foundation provides scholarships to hard-working students, purchases equipment used in training programs, funds life-changing educational experiences and helps the College to serve more students.
The Victor Valley College Foundation will produce the 2013 event and share proceeds with the American Red Cross who will help to host the event in April. Last year, the two organizations worked together to introduce several new components including panel discussions and a website to provide attendees with access to Summit presentations all year. This year, the Foundation is planning to further enhance the value of the program with more new elements.
The High Desert Economic Summit will bring expert analysis of national, state and regional economic trends affecting the Victor Valley; provide a new look at local economic development efforts and examine a hot topic affecting the High Desert today.
