(Apple Valley)–On April 27, 2013 Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company hosted their 2nd Annual Conservation Fair at Lion’s Park in Apple Valley. Ranchos goals for this event are community outreach, engage the public, improve skills for irrigation, hands on training, have fun, interaction, increase awareness of the necessity of sustainability and conserving our precious resource.
Three types of contest were offered to the community .
- People’s Choice Award- The People’s Choice Award consist of our customers who have removed their high consumption lawn and converted to desert landscape through the Cash for Grass Program. There were 10 finalist and the public voted on their favorite landscape. Between the three winners they will be saving 333,000 gallons of water per year.
- Conservation Essay Contest- 7th & 8th grade and 9th thru 12th grade- Students from each category had to write a 300 word essay on why they think water conservation is important.
- Conservation Poster Contest – 2nd & 3rd grade and 4th thru 6th grade- Students from each category had to create a Water Conservation poster.
Each winner was recognized with an award which was sponsored by a local contractor, High Desert Underground. Apple Valley Ranchos has already began planning for next year’s event to keep the community involved and aware of the importance of conservation.
