(Victor Valley)–– On May 11th and 12th, 2013 The Mojave Desert’s own historical Calico Ghost Town will host a Mother’s Day Spring Festival. Formerly known as Calico’s Bluegrass in the Spring Festival, the event will now offer other musical genres. Guests can enjoy Zydeco stylings of Lisa Haley and the Zydecats; Southern Rock from Jason Charles Miller; Americana and Folk from Debby Clinkenbeard with guest Eric Uglum; Contemporary-Acoustic from Billie Stevens; Ragtime and Traditional piano from Henry Fencepost; and Bluegrass from Fiddle & Pine. The SWBA Bluegrass Kids and Fiddler’s of the Wind will also perform. Storytelling from The Gypsy Time Travelers will offer unique entertainment for kids of all ages.
In keeping with Calico traditions, guests can also partake in old west games such as nickels in the haystack, a fry pan toss, egg toss and a pie eating contest.
Saturday night will offer a 7pm dance featuring the swinging sounds of The Big Fat Steve Band.
As a special contribution to this event, patrons can witness gunfight exhibitions hosted by the Calico Gunfighters and featuring Guns and Garters. Event guests can also experience shopping and activities unique to Calico such as The Rock and Fossil Shop, Dorsey’s Dog House, Lanes General Store, Boot and Saddle, Gold Panning, The Mystery Shack, Maggie Mine (a tour through a REAL silver mine) and The Odessa Railroad train ride. The new Zenda Mining Museum will give guests a look into the rich mining history of the town.
Event hours are 9am-8:30pm on Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sunday
Tickets will be sold at the gate on the day of the event only. Admission is $10 adults; $5 children 6-15 and free for children under five. Calico Ghost Town, located off I-15 at Ghost Town Road.
