(Victor Valley)–— On Saturday, June 1, 2013 Southern California firefighters, fire departments, civic groups and local businesses will join together in raising funds to support the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, through the Annual Firefighters Burn Relay.

This annual fundraising relay parade of new and vintage fire apparatuses combines public awareness with gratitude and appreciation for the fire service, and will kick off at Santa Monica Beach Park with a breakfast hosted at 7:00am by Santa Monica firefighters. From there, the parade will divide into two routes, one route traveling through the Valley cities and the other through the beach cities. Along the relay route local firefighters will collect donations raised by numerous fire and public safety agencies through annual community events, like golf tournaments, pancake breakfasts and spaghetti dinners, and formally present the funds to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. Funds raised support the mission of the Burn Foundation and will provide services to burn survivors and support burn prevention education programs in the community.

Organized by Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Rey Dong for the past decade, participating fire departments for this year’s event include: Arcadia FD, Beverly Hills FD, Chevron FD, Culver City FD, Downey FD, El Segundo FD, Hermosa Beach FD, Long Beach FD, Los Angeles City FD, Los Angeles County FD, Manhattan Beach FD, Monrovia FD, Redondo Beach FD, San Gabriel FD, San Marino FD, Santa Fe Springs FD, Santa Monica FD, Torrance FD and Vernon FD.

“We are thrilled to have the support of the Southern California fire departments for the Annual Firefighter Burn Relay,” said Jennifer Radics, Executive Director for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. “This relay raises awareness of the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation’s burn prevention education program and provides vital support to child and adult burn survivors throughout Southern California. Over the past 10 years this relay raised nearly half a million dollars which helped us serve thousands burn survivors and provide prevention education to over children throughout the state of California. We are grateful to all of the wonderful firefighters and departments who raise funds all year long to support the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation.”

The public is invited to attend the Firefighters Burn Relay Grand Finale event on June 1, 2013 at 3:00pm at Los Angeles County Fire Department Fire Station 118, 17056 E. Gale Ave. City of Industry, CA 91745, or at any of the Fire Departments on the route. The Finale event will have food, entertainment, exhibits and prizes.
