(Victor Valley)– – A project to rehabilitate the pavement on State Routes (SR) 138, 173, and 189 in the San Bernardino Mountains is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 20. The $4.9 million dollar project has been awarded to All American Asphalt of Fontana. This project will grind, overlay, and re-stripe the roadways, plus replace the detectors and is expected to last through August 2013, weather permitting.
The work will take place Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. beginning Monday, May 20. The work schedule is subject to change and the public will be notified if it becomes necessary.
The project will begin on westbound SR 138 at SR 18. The work will continue on SR 138 to SR 173 where it will turn around and resume on the eastbound side ending at SR 18. After SR 138 has been completed, the project will then move to eastbound SR 189 beginning at SR 18, continue to SR 173, then turn around and continue to westbound SR 189.
The final section of the project will begin on westbound SR 173 at SR 18, continue to North Bay Road, then turn around to complete eastbound SR 173 working back on the final section to SR 18.
There will be one way traffic control in all of these areas while the work is being conducted. Expect delays and plan your trip accordingly – use alternate routes or alter your travel times to avoid the work hours.
