(Victorville)– On Saturday July 20, 2013 several players and coaches took a day off and donated their time to the Matt Leinart/Keith Rivers Military Football Camp in Port Hueneme Naval Base in Port Hueneme, California. The camp was rewarded to children of military personnel that have one parent oversees currently and was free to all participants. 75 children attended the camp that was sponsored by Proctor and Gamble and Pro Camps Worldwide; spent the day with Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart and current New York Giant Linebacker Keith Rivers.
Victor Valley College players Bing Lin, Herman Smith IV, Jacob Tizzard, Jimmy Musgrave and a few members of the coaching staff dedicated their entire Saturday to the children of this event. They instructed the campers on the importance of dedication, school and various football drills and even prepared lunch for the campers. “It is truly amazing to see college football players helping us at this function, they can be anywhere today and they chose to come here and help this great cause”, commented 2004 Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart. New York Giants Linebacker Keith Rivers added, “the players and coaches from Victor Valley College really added a special touch to this day and are exceptional young men, their energy level with the children was top notch, I am going to have to follow them this season and wish them all the best”.
The Rams will open on the season on September 7, 2013 and will play host to LA Pierce College.
